The Evolution of Anti-Mormonism
The Gold Plates
Let’s go back to 1820. This is the time frame that Joseph Smith, as a fifteen year old boy, started his supposed “charlatanism.” As a fifteen-year-old boy, Joseph Smith committed to some real “hair-brain” ideas! It was not long before the first anti-Mormons came into existence and started their accusations. One of the first accusations against Joseph Smith was:
Accusation #1: The golden plates that Joseph Smith was supposed to have found are false. This was because nowhere in the history of the known world (at that time) has any ancient writings been found on any types of metal plates. All known ancient writings were all on ancient scrolls…so Joseph Smith had to be a liar!
Response #1: What you probably do not know was that Joseph Smith committed to the “golden plates in a stone box” story when he was 15 years old. He told the local Methodist minister, his family and his friends.
I am not accusing those anti-Mormons of lying; in fact they were telling the truth as far as what was archeologically evident at the time. Time did prove the Joseph Smith to be miraculously correct. There is current evidence that all over the world people have written their histories on plates of gold, tin, copper, clay and etc. There is evidence and pictures for these!
Since the time of Joseph Smith, archaeologists have discovered other civilizations that have recorded their history on several types of metal plates. Pictures of these plates are found below:
This gold plate was found in Persia in 1961. The plate dates to the time of Darius II in the fourth century B.C.. This plate is similar in size to the ones described by Joseph Smith.
These gold plates were found in Peru. The plates are fastened together with gold rings.
This anti-Mormon accusation was proven wrong by facts and evidence.
- What have the anti-Mormons done with these facts and evidence? These facts did not serve their purpose so they chose to ignore it and moved to another accusation!
- Have the anti-Mormons ever taught you about these gold plate accusations?
- Why do you think they ignore this new evidence?
Something that has always mystified me is that those anti-Mormons in Joseph Smith’s days did not believe in golden plates…but they sure tried hard to steal them from him!
